Satisfaction

Often tied to a specific need or desire being fulfilled. You might feel satisfied after eating a delicious meal because your hunger is gone. It’s a feeling of completion and accomplishment.

Contentment

More general feeling of peace and acceptance with your current situation. You’re happy with things as they are, even if you’re not actively pursuing anything new.

Analogy

Imagine a delicious cake. If you eat a slice and feel happy and full, you’re satisfied. But if you look at the whole cake and feel happy and peaceful because you know you have dessert whenever you want it, that’s contentment.

Summary

Contentment can be a more lasting feeling than satisfaction. Satisfaction is temporary, while contentment can be a state of being. You can be content without being satisfied, but it’s harder to be satisfied without some level of contentment.
